RENAULT ANNOUNCES STUDENT WINNER OF £9,000

TOWARDS TUITION FEES IN TWIZY DESIGN COMPETITION

As the buzz surrounding Twizy, arguably the most sensational-looking vehicle of 2012, continues to grow, Renault has just announced the winner of its student ‘Design a Twizy’ competition to tie in with the recent launch of its 100% electric two-seater.

Rachel Smith, 20, who studies advertising and media relations at The University of Huddersfield, won a public vote ahead of nine other shortlisted entries to scoop the grand prize of £9,000 to cover one years’ tuition fees.

Rachel was presented with her cheque by Renault ambassador and solo long distance yachtswoman Dame Ellen MacArthur at the university’s Business School where her winning rainbow inspired design was showcased on a Twizy to celebrate the occasion.

The online voting process was the culmination of Renault’s ‘Design a Twizy’ competition which ran between January and March and captured the imagination of students from all over the UK with more than 16,000 votes cast over the 10-week period.

The trailblazing Twizy is an all-electric vehicle, producing zero emissions during its use on the road. The eye-catching two-seater compact hit UK showrooms on 13th April, but even before then British buyers had been pre-ordering their own version online at www.renault-ze.com. Twizy is available in a choice of three trim levels from just £6,690 on-the-road, plus monthly battery hire from £45 based on 4,500 miles per year, over three years.

NOTES TO EDITORS

Given its striking design, low 450kg weight and low centre of gravity, Twizy is great to drive. With 57Nm of instant torque available, it’s also capable of giving much more expensive cars, not to mention white van men and taxis, something to think about when it comes to nipping around the city. It’s capable of up to 50 mph and full charge takes three and a half hours using a domestic electrical supply via a spiral cable stowed behind a flap at the front, providing a range of up to 62 miles on urban cycle. In everyday use, this figure can vary depending on driving conditions. Monthly battery hire for Twizy costs from £45 including VAT, based on three years and 4,500 miles per year.
